About us

We are based in our own purpose built classroom within the grounds of Urchfont Primary school with whom we have close links. This enables the children who will be moving onto the school to participate in regular transition visits in the summer term to meet their forthcoming teacher and get to know the new environment.

Through child-initiated play the children are enabled to have ownership over their learning, whereby they explore, discover and use their imagination and creativity to follow their own ideas. Skilled and experienced staff introduce new ideas to extend the children’s learning. Planned activities are provided to ensure the children are accessing opportunities that support the development of their skills in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.

We have our own secure outdoor area allowing us to offer free flow play; the children are able to move between the indoor and outdoor environment as they wish. To further promote the children’s independence we provide a cafe style snack time.

To broaden the children’s learning we venture out into the wider community. Activities include walks around Urchfont, visiting the ducks on the pond and the shop. And travelling on the village mini bus to Devizes book shop and the library. Each year we enjoy a whole preschool trip with families to visit places like Finkley Down Farm and the Rowdey Cow for ice cream! We also have frequent visitors into preschool, recently this has included Zoolab, Kaya Drums, a police officer and a firefighter.

We have a secret Facebook page where posts are made daily to show you what exciting things we have been doing and learning about. Each child has a learning journey which documents their learning. The children and parents have unlimited access to these. We hold regular parents evenings to give you an overview of your child’s learning.

Weekly activities

Thursday is woodland learning day. Come rain or shine we spend the morning in Oakfrith Woods which is just a short walk away.

Every week we also do yoga, music and movement, cooking and music. Each term we rotate the day of these activities to give all children the opportunity to experience them.
